Its been a little too easy to neglect our blog lately. I just feel like we have been so busy, and when I do have time I just don't feel like it. So I decided while listening to conference I should update. This post is more about us as individuals and not about our recent outings and activities.
We will start with the head of the household... Mr. Garner. He is a busy guy. This last semester he got even busier. At the beginning of the semester he was asked to take on extra classes because they were lacking 1 teacher. So he went from being a part time teacher to a 3/4 time teacher. This may not seem like a big deal, but add that on top of Doctorate level course work, the extra grading, Having to certify to do lab techniques like handling radiation etc, pulling time in the lab to learn and perfect specific lab techniques, and top it off that he still has to be a good husband and dad. He is busy. Busy is an understatement actually. He never ceases to amaze me. I know it has been hard on him, but he will stop at nothing to make sure the needs of our family are met. He is really excited for summer and spring to finally come because that means more manual labor to be done. This is and always has been the way he relieves stress and anxiety. Above all though he is LOVING Purdue. The teachers are amazing. Being at Purdue has broadened his horizon, and made him realize he just might not want to work for BYUI anymore. He loves the Research aspect of a university and the idea being able to travel and move around a bit more than if we just settled at BYUI.
So Hayden is almost 4. Next month. Where on earth did that time go? He has thoroughly and completely loved living here in Indiana. He has thrived here. He has some of the best friends here, and enjoys playing with them on a weekly basis. He is officially a sunbeam, and literally will cry if he doesn't get to go to primary. He absolutely loves it. Next week he will start playing soccer with some of his friends. I am so excited to see him in his soccer gear trying to kick a ball around the field. It is kind of surreal to me that we are entering that part of life where I am/will be entering the "soccer mom" part of life. This August he will be starting pre school at one of the local churches here in town. He is so excited to go to a real school, and not just doing joy school at home. We recently got a bike from wally world on sale, and he loves riding it. We have been teaching him how to peddle, and once he masters that we will be taking the training wheels off since he already knows how to maintain his balance. Hayden loves to help Grace do things. He helps her put on her shoes or gets things down for her. It is nice. He also makes sure she doesn't get into mischief. He is my little helper and he loves to do it.
Grace is growing by leaps and bounds. She is speaking in full on sentences and even paragraphs. It is crazy and soooo stinking cute! Especially when Hayden gets involved and tries to teach her new words. She is more of the a leader in the family. She has a mind of her own, and she is a dare devil. She currently can do 20 piece puzzles, and loves to read books. She is obsessed with mickey mouse and Winnie the pooh or in her words "nee nee pooh" She is/ has been in nursery for 2 months now. She didn't take to it as well as her brother, but by that I mean she cried for 5 minutes and then she was fine. She loves going now.
Grace and Hayden are at such a fun age. So fun in fact there are times when I am happy with just the two of them and I think I don't want any more kids. These two are just perfect and I have one of each. They are best friends and will spend all day playing with one another. Some of their favorite games are playing trains and cars, doing puzzles, and playing hide and go seek. They play so well together and you can see the love that they have for one another.
Moving to Indiana has made me busier than ever. I don't know what it is about here, but I am constantly on the move. It has been nuts, and I have truly loved feeling like I have a place where I belong. Ron and I don't have the feeling of we are just students so we will be leaving soon. I have made some of the best friends here. We literally have weekly girls nights out. They are so much fun, and there are times when I literally don't come home till 1 in the morning. I feel like I am a teenager again in some ways. I have been staying busy with going to various relief society groups like Recipe group, and daily aerobics at our church gym. We have been talking about putting me in Hair school again since we have no plans of leaving for at least 2-3 years. I am excited about this idea especially since we have had a lot of issues with BYUI since we moved out here. Obviously I am not in school right now if we are talking about other types of school. They were really struggling this year with online programs and with out getting into it I will just say that I basically had to file appeals and all this last semester. It was awful, and actually a blessing in disguise. After I dropped this semester Ron found out that he would be teaching extra courses, and I was sort of struggling with depression for who knows why. After that we found out that I had a hypothyroid, and have been working with a doctor to get it regulated. Who knew when your thyroid didn't work it made you depressed? I didn't but since have been doing tons better. Ron says its like the girl he first fell in love with is back! Needless to say BYUI has been put on the back burner so we can focus on my health, Rons school and our children.
That is life here in the Garner household. I did forget to mention that Ron and I were called as primary workers for our ward. For the most part we love it. I think we both just love singing time and so it makes being in primary a blast. We teach one of the 7-8 year old classes. It has been a great learning experience, and we both love being together the entire 3 hour block. We also have really enjoyed having the missionaries around. It is so neat to see the missionary field live and in action. We love having them over, and try to do it at least weekly. Ron and I agreed that this was such a great way to teach our children about missionary work. It truly has been wonderful. In the words of Hayden "We love those psychos!" Life in Indiana has been better than we even imagined. We truly love it here, and have even talked about buying a house so we feel even more settled than we are. Both Ron and I have said we would stay in a heart beat if we were offered a job. Life in the Midwest has been fantastic to say the least.
Stay tuned for actually pictured blogs. I have been meaning to get cracking on those. Ron has priesthood session tonight at 8 so I might as well get going on it!
