Potty Training

Can I just say potty training is by far my least favorite thing about parenting. Give me those sleepless nights feeding and rocking a precious new babe any day. Potty training is awful.

We have tried and tried to train this boy since before Grace was born. He just wouldn't have it. Ron and I finally discussed how we were going to get him trained, and we were basically desperate to get Hayden to pee in a toilet. We would do anything. So I asked mom's on Facebook what helped to get their kid's trained. Then I basically did all of them and weeded out the things that he didn't like, or the things that just didn't work.

The day I decided to start training I decided to do a half day. That way I could break him and myself in. That morning I took him to wal Mart and let him pick everything out even though some of the things like undies and candy were already at our house. I wanted everything to be exactly what he wanted.

He chose Pixar movie underwear. Basically it's just a mixture of underwear with different characters from Pixar movies I.e: Cars, toy story, finding Nemo etc.... Then he chose the stickers he wanted for his potty chart. This time it was jake and the never land pirates, toy story, and cars stickers. The candy he chose were airheads and Hershey's kisses. Finally the whopper and grand final he got to choose was any toy (with in a given price range). He chose a take and play Thomas train set. Then a Percy train to go with.

My plan like I said was to take everyone's advice and make it work. Picking out everything he wanted was one if the tactics. Making a potty chart was another, and the big toy as a prize was another.

That after noon we made him and grace (didn't want to leave her out) potty charts.

Every time they went they got a sticker and a treat. Then after getting 5 stickers they got a special prize. The first was an ice cream cone. Then when he hit 10 stickers he got his Percy train. 15 was another ice cream cone, and 20 was the train set.

I was amazed at how gung-ho he was for this. Hayden is one determined little boy. The first few times he wouldn't get off the potty till he got his 20 stickers. He'd say " no I need to stay here and go pee pee 20 times so I get my train set!!!!" I love his determination and spunk. I had to pry him off his little Mickey toilet. Then he would cry. He wanted that set so bad.

He finally did it though!!!! He and I were so proud. He just loves that train. He knows if he has a pee accident it goes right back up to the back of the toilet till the next time he goes in The potty without an accident. He doesn't complain about it, and we don't get mad about the accident. It's a good deal.

We had days where he was very gung-ho to go potty and others it was very difficult. For the most part he has done amazing!!!!! We still have a lot of work ahead before he is fully trained. I have been told by many many moms that it could take 6 months to get him fully trained. That's okay with me. I have learned to embrace and cheer the progress he has made this far.

We have a few fears to conquer. He is deathly scared to do #2 in the toilet. Apparently that is normal.  He asks for a diaper when he needs to go. We definitely have accidents on occasion, but because we cloth diaper it isn't a huge deal to clean up. Bless that diaper sprayer!!  He isn't night trained yet. He wakes up from naps completely dry. Like I said we have a ways to go. I am so proud of him though. He very rarely has pee accidents. The last time he had one was over a week ago when we were at a kid's museum. It was just so fun he didn't realize he needed to go! I won't lie I was ticked because We were out of town, but I half expected it! That museum was just to darn fun to stop and go pee!

My baby boy is getting big so fast. It's is so sad but I love it at the same time. I love this stage of Independence.  He is a little sponge and  he is always ready to learn new things.
