I looked through my phone and realized just how far behind I am on our blog. Wow. We have just been so busy with summer and moving it's been insane!!! So I decided to get all caught up. It'll take time but I will do it!!!!
Now I just need to learn how to get it out of clothes!
So one thing that I just love about Indiana is all the farms. It seriously puts Idaho to Shame in some sorts because of the variety!!! We have so many self pick farms, one of the largest dairies In The country, and lots of orchards as well.
One particular day I saw that there was a farm advertising self pick organic blueberries. Yummy!!!! The best part was the price!!! 2.30 a pound!!!! I loved the idea if picking berries with my sweet hubby and my babies. So that night we spent the evening picking blueberries.
A few days later I decided to make jam. I had never done it by myself before, but had all the supplies I needed to do so! I couldn't believe I hadn't done it before!!! It was so easy!!! I was just so used to helping/ watching my mom do it.
This is definitely a tradition I want to keep with my kids. Growing up fall meant harvesting and canning pomegranate jelly , crab apple jelly and all other various types of food. My mom and grandma both instilled in me the importance of preserving our food. It's so much cheaper, healthier and tastes better! The jelly was always my favorite. My mom rarely bought bread. She usually made it. Again another tradition we have at our house for the very same reasons. So the moment that blueberry jam was done we smothered it on homemade honey wheat bread with butter. It was a total hit with my babes.
