Teton dam 5k

When Ron and I were first married one of our goals we talked about doing was to run a 5k together. We finally completed that goal, and became family of dam runners.

I have come to learn that I once despised running. I loved to walk and swim, but run? It has never been my forte.

Since I started training a month or so ago, I have learned that running still sucks, but it is growing on me. It's no longer my arch rival enemy. It is starting to sort of become my "me" alone time. It has been fun to set goals, watch my progress, and lose 8 of the 15 pounds of must lose baby weight. All thanks to the not so much hated sport. Let me remind myself that It hasn't been fun trying to deal with and treat my sore ankles and knees. Thank you dr. Scholls and awesome hubby and his education. Between these two I have been saved.

When I started training it took me about a half hour to run/ walk about 1.4 miles. Pathetic I know. Let us also Emphasize the walking. I did little running and lots if walking. Today I am proud to say that I still probably couldn't run an entire mile without stopping (maybe I can. I haven't tried.) However, I can now run 3.1miles in 38.41 minutes with a mile pace of about 11.37 minutes. I have doubled my distance in almost the same amount of time.

Our Overall  5k experience was awesome. It was a lot of fun. Ron and I didn't end up running together (he is much faster than I). I could tell he was antsy and bored with my pace, and he knew I was annoyed with his antsiness. So we parted ways. He took the kids in the stroller, and together they kicked my trash and got 5th in his age bracket. He wishes now he would have actually tried because he would have won his age bracket easy.

I finished 22nd out 54 in my age bracket. Not bad. I had decided to just compete with myself instead of everyone else. So the next 5k I will try and beat my 38.41 minute time.

Walking has always been something Ron and I liked to do together. Heck we were on a long walk when we decided to marry each other. After doing this race I can definitely see that running is going to another thing we do together. I already have plans for a 5k next month (trying to get Ron on board. He doesn't want to pay for this one). After that, we are going to start training for a 10k. It'll take a while, but it is definitely on my bucket list now.
